The hypocrisy of mainstream media as always being disseminators of current events always seems to reveal itself with horrible events like these. Typically events that fail to get the Breaking News treatment, happen outside of Europe or the Americas, and said horrific or terror-fying events happen to places deemed less important? (We could also be having this conversation about the NAACP BOMBING that happened
50 years ago two weeks ago.) [update: hoax claims are coming out, but have since been debunked.] Sure journalism could use an overhaul, but also any systems which should be addressing said horrible events (Federal Gov’t//White House//Etc), who have given nothing much for journalists to report on.
More hypocrisy: World Leaders gathered in a march condemning deadly attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. From the Russian Foreign Minister, the President of Egypt, to Southeast Asia, and Morroco. It is a very long list of Leaders who joined arms to stand for the freedom of speech, while many have stifled the freedoms of their own citizens who speak out against them. It is actually quite disturbing to see these World Leaders gather in arms in order to distort the truth for fear of radical Islamic rising powers.
Mainstream media could credit itself with something authentic, if it remained on this thread and forced a dialogue. How can leaders of the supposedly free world call condemn the acts of others, as they commit the same atrocity of stifling the voice of opposition?
An ongoing atrocity, really—Boka Horam’s birth came about in 2009/10, shredding the fabric of Africa’s cultural gem, Nigeria… Africa’s 9/11 going on six years strong. The latest Boka Horam (Translates: Western Education is Forbidden) killing some 2000 Human Beings. Human Rights Watch states the Nigerian Government is grossly under-reporting the death toll. Whole towns have been abandoned, 10,000 people fleeing.
It is very self evident that the Western World is materially motivated when it comes to Humanitarianism. Nigeria is a hotbed of terrorism, Boka Horam is gaining strength. Nigeria has no oil, or commodity worth fighting for?
