PLEASE JOIN US NEXT SUNDAY, FEB 1ST FROM 2-6P AND AN ARTIST TALK AT 4PM
In conjunction with our current exhibition, we’d like to invite you to AOT PROJECT SALON’s first formal dialogue! This is a Salon after all, and Ian’s work is meant to start a conversation. The house is open at 2pm, and our conversation will begin at 4pm. Light refreshments will be served.
Beneath the surface impressions of my work one can find layers of reference that can be traced back to any number of things found in our history and experience. Scientific discoveries, historical events, unspeakable crimes, things that have had an effect on both individual and universal experience can find their way into my work. And this can be through the writing of a name or date on a piece, through choice of form and color, through the use of a title or additional detail. What is important for me to point out is that these references are never clear-cut, but rather, veiled to the audience with the intention of not bringing them into a world that I’ve created, but to get them to engage in their own. I invite viewers of my work to dissect and ponder the lines, symbols, materials, and means of construction of the work and to make sense of, for themselves, the content, concept, and context of which my work contains. And these traits of my work must come from a Constructivist tradition, a tradition with a foundation built on the belief that art must remain in contemporary step with life itself, with this inevitable constant swing-and-sway dubbed Humanity. — Ian James Carr ianjamescarr.com
