Melinda’s work is an organic discovery, filled with colorful and curious objects that excite the senses. Wandering through her portrayal of this garden of mystery, things are not as they might visually appear to everyone, but confidently as they appear to Melinda.

Her paintings are snapshots of something much larger happening, and cannot be contained by the canvas.  Spiked orbs and gelatinous spheres, that must be moving like Jellyfish, float and collide off into an abyss.  Like the German Expressionists that inspire Hackett, her work contains both seed and carrier, bringing forth unbound ideas.

Ever have that desire to grab an object out of a painting?  That tantalizing sense of a thing can now be yours.  Hackett and Mike Drury, sculptor and goldsmith, have teamed up as MDMH.

Together as MDMH Drury and Hackett show a fuller spectrum of confusion and beauty; myth, mystery, and Becoming; chaos, cycles, and stillness.  Drury is impregnated with the objects of Hackett’s imagination to inspire his artisan lust for objects.  His small bronze objects are Eros in this unfolding drama—they are weighted, and a bit frightening.  As it turns out Agape can give, and Eros receive.

ODETTA is pleased to present recent works by Michael Drury, Charles Geiger, Melinda Hackett, Lina Puerta and Sylvia Schwartz for the gallery’s second exhibition, EDEN.

EDEN brings together five artists from New York and the Hudson River Valley who focus on creating lush worlds that show evidence of humanity’s need to mess with Paradise.

Exhibition Dates: July 5 – August 24, 2014
Opening Reception: Saturday July 5, 6-8 pm 229 Cook Street, Brooklyn, NY 11206
